Marina Resort of Muggia: on holiday in style

Porto San Rocco is the perfect destination for those who love the sea and stylish holidays. The Marina Resort of Muggia, close to Trieste, is located in a privileged position. It’s also the perfect departure point for a unique holiday, at any time of the year. Situated in the Northern Adriatic, it’s possible to set off from this Marina in discovery of the Slovenian and Croatian coastlines, or the hinterland which is rich in natural beauty and much more. Furthermore, the tourist port is easily reachable from the A4 motorway exit of Muggia, or alternatively from Trieste Airport.

This part of the coast is considered a paradise for sailing enthusiasts, and the wind allows you to sail all year round. The highlight of the event calendar is the Barcolana, which takes place in the mirror like waters of the Gulf of Trieste and which attracts thousands of participants every year. However, Porto San Rocco is also perfect for those who love a quieter holiday. In addition to the strategic position of the Marina there are all the services it offers, making it a real floating resort, perfect for discovering these places even during the less crowded season.

Porto San Rocco: high level hospitality all year round sleeping on a boat

Few experiences can be more fascinating than spending a night or a holiday on board a boat. Being surrounded by an exclusive environment and unique design is complemented by all those experiences that only a boat can give. Let’s think, for example, of being able to enjoy the sunset from the deck of the boat, with a background of sounds of the sea and the marina. Porto San Rocco offers something more besides: a choice of services of the highest level for its guests.

The Marina Resort of Muggia offers all the services which are important for experiencing a totally relaxing and care free holiday, at any time of the year. In periods considered low season, a holiday at the mooring is an opportunity to relax and explore the area.

And the marina services are available to guests for their every need. Starting with bars, restaurants and shops: you can find everything you need in the marina without having to move. To taste the best cuisine, by simply disembarking the tender. But the surprises don’t end here. In fact you can also find a beauty salon and a fitness area which includes an indoor pool, for keeping fit. Without of course forgetting the large car park available to guests.

The summer season services: sea and sport in the centre

During the high season, all the services linked to open air sport and the sea are available in the marina.

Starting from the open air pool that allows you to swim and sunbathe a few metres from the sea. The pool offers water gym, water yoga and pilates courses: perfect for keeping yourself in shape and having fun in the open air. In addition, there is a bicycle rental service that allows you to discover the marina surroundings. During the summer, the Porto San Rocco Yacht Club organises sailing courses dedicated to children and young people to bring them closer to sport and the sea.

The Gulf of Trieste: what to see in a weekend

Trieste and its surroundings offer visitors many different places to discover at any time of the year. And, if during the summer you cannot miss out on a cruise along the coast, taking you as far as Croatia, the low season is perfect instead for exploring the towns and villages of the area. Starting with Muggia itself; the tourist port is just a step away from the Venetian style seaside village, which is home to a quaint harbour, a castle and even an archaeological park.

The particularity of this village is that it is known as “Venice without canals”, and the similarities continue with the annual celebration of Carnival, characterised by the classic parade of floats and the parties that go on all night. Obviously a tour of Trieste is also not to be missed, to discover the charm of this border city par excellence.

In short, a weekend is not enough to see everything, but definitely between the places to visit is the Miramare Castle. Overlooking the gulf and an area of sea which is home to a protected marine reserve where you can try different underwater activities. And after that, a trip on the Opicina Tram, an ancient tramline dating back to the 19th century. The journey takes you on an out of town tour with unforgettable panoramic views. Just make sure you’re not afraid of heights; at a certain point of the journey, the tram travels at a 26% incline, giving you the feeling that you’re being ‘suspended’.

And after having explored Trieste and relaxing in one of the city’s typical, and cultural, cafes, it’s worth sampling the typical gastronomy of the region. It’s a real culinary melting pot, where the Istrian-Dalmatian and Austro-Hungarian traditions merge with those of the common peasant cuisine of the Karst hinterland.
